Our verdict on Vanilla
Vanilla is an estate planning platform for financial advisors, RIAs, wealth management firms, family offices, and trust companies. It brings document creation, visual estate diagrams, client-ready reports, scenario modeling, tax projections, client collaboration, and AI-assisted document analysis into one workflow. Its Document Builder supports wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and advanced planning structures. A Client Portal supports collaborative planning, while attorney network access covers all 50 U.S. states.
Vanilla uses contact-sales pricing across its Advanced, Expert, and Enterprise plans. Advanced includes estate visualizations, customizable PDF reports, document creation, balance sheet and integrations, planning opportunities, and estate projections. Expert adds Estate Builder, AI-assisted abstractions, V/AI for Estate Builder, and optional Vanilla Abstraction Services. Enterprise is designed around firm-specific needs, with team segmentations, roles and permissioning, planner workflows, custom in-app content, and enterprise-level support. The platform connects with eMoney, Black Diamond, Orion, Addepar, Plaid, and Salesforce, giving firms several routes for financial and CRM data.
The strongest case for Vanilla is its breadth across the estate planning process: Estate Health Check questionnaires identify planning gaps, visual diagrams make plans easier to present, and scenario modeling supports strategies such as GRATs, SLATs, and IDGTs. AI-generated summaries and document analysis add another review layer, while attorney access supports review across every U.S. state. Advisors who need integrated modeling, documents, collaboration, and firm controls should consider Vanilla. Firms seeking a free plan, self-serve pricing, or a non-web platform should look elsewhere.
