Our verdict on TotalMounter
TotalMounter is free Windows software for mounting optical disc images and virtual hard-disk files as virtual drives. It is aimed at Windows users who need to access ISO and other optical image formats, work with IMG or VHD files, create image files, or connect to network storage through iSCSI and INetDisk. Supported systems include Windows 2000 or above, with 32-bit and 64-bit support across AMD64, EM64T and IA64 systems.
The product’s scope is broader than basic image mounting. It supports ISO, CDI, BIN, MDS, MDF, IMG, RAW, CCD and NRG files, mounts IMG and VHD virtual hard-disk files, and creates IMG, VHD and ISO images. A virtual CD/DVD-RW burner is included, along with AES-256 virtual-disk encryption. Because the product is completely free, buyers can access these functions without choosing among paid tiers or comparing feature limits across plans.
Network-storage support adds an additional use case through the built-in iSCSI initiator and INetDisk client. TotalMounter connects to iSCSI targets, KernSafe iStorage Server and INetDisk Server, making it a fit for Windows environments that need both local virtual drives and network-backed storage. Its main boundary is image writing: the product supports mounting, creation and virtual burning functions, but image writing is not supported.
