  • Where it wins

    • Scans transient and offline assets asynchronously when they reconnect
    • Collects vulnerability, compliance, configuration, and system data locally
    • Supports Windows, macOS, Linux, HTTPS-only outbound communication, and auto-updates
  • Where it doesn't

    • Does not perform network checks or network discovery
    • Requires agents to be installed on the hosts being assessed
    • Published pricing covers a Tenable One bundle, not a standalone Agents license

Our verdict on Tenable Agents

Tenable Agents provides lightweight programs for servers, laptops, desktops, and other hosts. It is designed for organizations that need local vulnerability scanning on installed systems, especially transient, offline, or difficult-to-scan assets. Agents collect vulnerability, compliance, configuration, and system data locally, then report to Tenable One Vulnerability Management or Tenable Nessus Manager. The product supports Windows, macOS, and Linux environments, and can perform credentialed local checks without ongoing host credentials.

Pricing is published through Tenable One Vulnerability Management. The 1-year plan costs $3,500 per year and includes Tenable Agents through the Tenable One bundle. The 2-year plan costs $6,825 for 2 years, while the 3-year plan costs $9,975 for 3 years; both also include Tenable Agents through Tenable One Vulnerability Management. The licensing structure matters for buyers comparing an agent-only purchase, because the published plans describe a bundled offering rather than a standalone Agents license.

Its clearest strength is coverage of assets that may be offline or unavailable during a scheduled scan. Asynchronous scanning lets agents report when devices reconnect, while outbound HTTPS communication avoids inbound ports. Automatic agent updates and concurrent agent scans support larger deployments. However, Tenable Agents is not a replacement for network-based scanning: it does not perform network checks or network discovery. Buyers focused on local coverage, compliance data, and intermittent connectivity should consider it; teams that primarily need discovery and assessment of network-connected devices should choose a product with those capabilities.
