Technic, run by Syndicate LLC, pairs a launcher with the Technic Platform, a catalogue where creators publish modpacks and players install them with a single click from thousands on offer. The platform sorts and ranks packs by popularity, surfaces the most popular packs of the week inside the launcher, and connects each pack with the players who install it, so its updates and news reach them automatically. Downloads cover a Windows installer that now bundles the Java runtime Technic needs, alongside Linux and macOS builds.
For creators, the draw is distribution rather than assembly. A pack published on the platform appears in the launcher's discover section, and a self-hosted Solder install can serve a custom modpack version by version, saving bandwidth and letting players stay on a chosen build; the launcher's Solder integration was recently cleaned up to reduce timeouts. The launcher itself is open source under the GPL-3.0, and a new 4.0 build series was shipping in September 2026, so the project is still moving after many years.
Technic is a distribution platform more than a builder. Its official pages say little about assembling mods inside the launcher or exporting packs in the formats other launchers read, and serving packs per version means running Solder yourself.
