Our verdict on Modrinth App
Modrinth App is the desktop launcher from Rinth, Inc., the company behind the Modrinth mod platform, and it is open source under the GPL-3.0 with builds for Windows, macOS and Linux. It installs, updates and removes mods from the Modrinth catalogue with a click, keeps each instance's versions in view, and installs complete modpacks from its Browse section. The company presents it as lighter on system resources than many of the leading mod managers, and its landing page shows an instance's installed mods listed with their versions and one-click actions.
Building a pack happens inside an instance: add content from Modrinth, then use Export modpack in the Mods tab to produce a .mrpack file. Modrinth's help centre notes that an instance linked to an existing pack may need to be unpaired first, and that the same format can also be created with other tools such as Prism Launcher, ATLauncher or packwiz. The finished file can be published as a project on Modrinth, which hosts thousands of mods and modpacks, after reading the platform's page on modpack permissions. An optional Modrinth Plus subscription sends half of its price to creators and adds a profile badge.
The app is still marked as a beta, and Modrinth itself warns that the Linux versions have known issues on certain systems and suggests other launchers there. Its content browser is limited to Modrinth-hosted projects, so packs that depend on mods found only on CurseForge need another tool. For creators who plan to publish on Modrinth, building and exporting in the platform's own launcher keeps the format and project metadata consistent from start to finish.
