Our verdict on T-LAB

T-LAB is a Windows desktop application for researchers and professional analysts working with text collections. Its freeware license makes it relevant to people who want corpus analysis without a time-limited trial or paid tier. It accepts document and tabular formats such as TXT, DOCX, PDF, CSV, XLSX, JSON, and XML, then supports segmentation into sentences, chunks, paragraphs, or short texts. Automatic lemmatization and stemming are available for documented languages, while texts in many languages can be analyzed.

The range of methods is a central strength. T-LAB offers co-occurrence, word association, sequence and network analysis, thematic analysis using bisecting k-means and topic modeling, document clustering, dictionary-based classification, and comparisons across corpus subsets. Interactive tables and charts can be exported. Sentiment analysis is dictionary-based, so researchers need to supply an appropriate dictionary; it is not an automatic, ready-made sentiment feature. This makes the product a better fit for analysts prepared to work with corpus methods and dictionaries than for teams seeking turnkey sentiment or entity extraction.

T-LAB is freeware, not open source, and the full software is available without a time limit. Its desktop-only, Windows-only availability narrows platform fit, and no integrations are listed. Support channels include community resources and documentation. The product is described as suitable for solo, small, and mid-market users, with GDPR listed as a compliance attribute. Researchers seeking a free desktop environment for varied text-analysis methods may find the scope appropriate; those who require a cloud service, integrations, or cross-platform access should look elsewhere.
