Our verdict on Surmado Code Review
Surmado Code Review is an automated pull-request review service for GitHub teams and solo developers. It evaluates code changes against a team-maintained STANDARDS.MD file and posts structured feedback, including summaries, issues, questions, reviewer guidance, and suggested improvements. Reviews can run when pull requests open or receive pushes, while /rerun-review provides a manual rerun option. It fits teams that want repeatable review checks without per-seat pricing, especially when their process depends on written engineering standards.
Its strongest area is specialized analysis. Surmado checks data-contract details such as schema paths, fields, and read/write patterns, along with missing or nonexistent packages and imports. It also detects PII in logs and scans for secrets and credentials. Teams can configure review language, draft handling, triggers, and exclusions, giving the service a narrower but more policy-focused role than a general code-commenting tool. Zero-retention handling of pull-request diffs after review is also part of its stated operating model.
The Free plan allows 10 pull requests per month, includes custom STANDARDS.MD enforcement and bug and security issue detection, and requires no credit card.
