Our verdict on Strider

Strider is an open-source continuous integration and continuous deployment platform for teams that install and operate CI on their own infrastructure. It provides a browser-based administration interface, worker processes for running jobs, webhook-triggered builds, and an internal API covering projects, jobs, repositories, and sessions. Support for Node.js, Ruby, and Python testing environments makes it suitable for teams maintaining established application stacks, particularly those that prefer a self-hosted web-based system over a managed CI service.

Its integration surface covers GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Gogs for repository workflows, with Heroku deployment integration and notifications through Slack, HipChat, and email. Builds can start from repository changes through webhooks, while plugins extend runners, providers, jobs, and other custom functionality. This combination gives Strider a useful fit for organizations with existing source-control and collaboration services, although its published feature depth is narrower than leading CI platforms. Teams that need a focused integration layer and an internal API may find its architecture appropriate; teams expecting a broad modern ecosystem should compare alternatives.

Strider's open-source, self-hosted model avoids a paid plan structure but places deployment and operational responsibility with the adopting team. The platform uses Node.js and Ember.js and stores data in MongoDB, so its fit depends on an organization’s ability to maintain that stack and its CI workers. It does not offer a hosted deployment option, and the documentation is old. Choose Strider when infrastructure control, plugin extensibility, and legacy self-hosted workflows matter most. Choose another platform when managed hosting, current documentation, or deeper pipeline features are central requirements.
