Our verdict on SqlBak
SqlBak is an agent-based database backup service for organizations managing databases across multiple servers. A lightweight application runs on Windows or Linux servers, while the web service schedules backup jobs, monitors server health and results, and manages backup history. It supports Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Azure SQL, Amazon RDS for SQL Server and MongoDB, with web, Windows, Linux and API access. The Free plan covers local or network folders, external HDD or NAS storage, FTP, Box, Backblaze B2 and Yandex.Disk, with one server, two databases and one month of backup history.
Its strongest fit is centralized operational control. SqlBak supports scheduled full, differential, incremental and transaction-log backups, along with compression, encryption, restore jobs and integrity verification. Monitoring includes backup results, server availability, health checks and event notifications. The Standard and Professional plans add progressively broader destinations, including FTPS, SFTP, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure Storage and S3 Compatible storage. They also add server-down alerts, longer backup history, AES encryption, health checks and a public API.
SqlBak suits teams that need a single management layer across varied database servers and storage environments, particularly where restore verification, retention management and API or command-line integration matter. The Free plan offers a practical starting point, but its server, database and history limits may not fit larger estates. Organizations needing broader storage coverage, more frequent server-down alerts or extended retention should consider the paid tiers. Teams seeking a non-agent deployment model or an open-source product should look elsewhere.
