Our verdict on Snoq

Snoq is a native Windows note-taking application for people who want local, password-protected notes without accounts or cloud synchronization. It supports Windows 10 and 11 and focuses on offline access rather than a connected workspace. The editor handles headings, lists, code blocks, links, quotes, and inline images, while full-text search, tabs, categories, and starred notes help organize a growing notebook. PDF export also provides a straightforward way to take notes beyond the app.

Pricing is simple: Snoq is free, with no premium tiers or feature limits. That makes the full feature set available without separating core editing, search, organization, export, backup, or encryption capabilities into paid plans. Notes can be stored locally, and encrypted vault backup and restoration add a way to protect and recover the notebook. When encryption is enabled, Snoq uses AES-256 with Argon2id key derivation. Its local-first design suits users who prefer keeping notes on a Windows computer instead of relying on cloud storage.

AI connectivity is optional and focused rather than broad. Snoq can provide a local MCP server for AI assistants and lists integrations with Claude, Claude Code, and Claude Desktop. This gives Claude-oriented workflows a path into a local notebook while preserving the app’s Windows and offline-first focus. The trade-off is limited ecosystem breadth: Snoq does not provide cloud synchronization or sharing, so it is less suitable for teams, collaborative work, or people who switch regularly between operating systems. Choose Snoq for private Windows notes, structured local organization, and optional Claude access; choose another note-taking app if cross-device sync or collaboration is central.
