Our verdict on SiriDB

SiriDB is an open-source time-series database from Cesbit for storing and analyzing numeric and log values. It fits teams working with IoT measurements, financial transactions, and operational metrics that need configurable time precision, aggregation, filtering, and retention controls. Deployment options include Linux, macOS, Docker using the official SiriDB server image, source builds, hosted operation by Cesbit, and cloud environments using Kubernetes. Its self-hosted and API availability also suit teams that want direct control over infrastructure and ingestion.

The database’s distributed design is a central strength. SiriDB can distribute data across multiple pools and use replica servers for redundancy and availability. Administrators can configure shard duration, shard storage, and expiration for numeric and log shards, giving the system a defined approach to storage management. Dynamic series matching can use names, regular expressions, or groups, which supports queries across changing sets of related series. These capabilities make SiriDB a strong fit when retention, distribution, and flexible series selection matter more than a familiar relational interface.

Integration is centered on HTTP and language connectors. The HTTP API covers administration, querying, and insertion, with JSON and QPack payload support; socket connections and native connectors provide additional ingestion methods. Connectors are available for Python, Golang, C/C++, Node.js, Java, PHP, and R, while Grafana supports visualization workflows. The trade-off is a custom SiriDB query language and no SQL support, which narrows its fit for teams expecting standard database tooling or broad SQL compatibility. Choose SiriDB for custom-query numeric and log time series with distributed storage and configurable expiration; consider an alternative when SQL is a core requirement.
