Our verdict on SilverBullet

SilverBullet is an open-source, self-hosted knowledge management and note-taking application built around Markdown files. It is designed for individuals and teams that want control over where notes are stored, how pages are structured, and how the workspace can be extended. The browser-based editor supports live preview, wiki-style bidirectional links, outlining, task management, objects, queries, and programmable pages. Its Progressive Web App supports offline access, while the listed platforms include web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and self-hosted deployments.

Its strongest distinction is the depth of its programmable knowledge-base model. Lua scripting can add commands, templates, and widgets, while sandboxed web-worker plugs provide another extension path. Built-in queries and objects support structured information alongside ordinary Markdown pages, making SilverBullet more suitable for interconnected personal knowledge bases and customized workflows than for simple, linear note capture.
