Our verdict on Scality ARTESCA
Scality ARTESCA is an S3-compatible object storage platform aimed primarily at enterprise backup, archive, and data-protection workloads. It provides S3-compatible API endpoints, AWS CLI support, web-based management, and data browser interfaces. Deployment options include software on customer hardware, preconfigured hardware, virtual appliances, and ARTESCA+ Veeam models. This makes it a fit for organizations that want S3 storage aligned with existing infrastructure and backup operations rather than a general-purpose storage service for every workload.
Its feature set is particularly relevant to retention and recovery requirements. Object versioning preserves current and noncurrent versions, while lifecycle expiration policies can delete them according to configured rules. S3 Object Lock supports governance and compliance retention modes. Cross-region replication connects ARTESCA instances between sites, and multipart uploads support objects up to 50 TB.
