Our verdict on Run Plan
Run Plan is an iPhone and Apple Watch app for runners preparing for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon, as well as people focused on maintenance or speed development. It builds plans around a runner’s schedule and fitness, then guides workouts by heart-rate zones or target pace. Its free offering makes it a straightforward option for solo runners who want structure on their wrist without carrying a phone on runs. The vendor says the app has no subscription, ads, or account requirement.
The watch-based workout experience is the clearest strength. Run Plan supports GPS run recording from Apple Watch without an iPhone, alongside live interval guidance, timed recoveries, and haptic cues. A training calendar, flexible workout rescheduling, training progress, and activity history help connect individual sessions to a longer plan. Apple Health integration gives it a place in an Apple-centered fitness setup. Runners wanting guidance in common race distances, plus maintenance and speed-development plans, get more than basic activity recording; those who only need a general-purpose running log may not need its plan structure.
Run Plan is free, and the vendor says there is no subscription. The vendor’s free page also describes a possible future paid tier as a one-time purchase for extras, but the current offering is presented as free. Platform coverage is iOS, with iPhone and Apple Watch support, so it is not a fit for runners who need Android or a non-Apple watch. Email is the listed support channel, and the app has no AI features. Choose it for free, watch-first training plans in the Apple ecosystem; look elsewhere if you need broader platform coverage or AI-assisted coaching.
