Our verdict on Quickbench

Quickbench is an open-source Bash script for assessing basic performance on Linux-based servers. It suits administrators and technical users who want one command-line benchmark to summarize host configuration, CPU loop rates, memory bandwidth, storage-device details, and filesystem storage performance. The tool is focused on practical baseline reporting rather than broad workload simulation, and its free availability fits environments where a lightweight, scriptable option is preferred.

Its coverage combines several useful system checks. Quickbench reports CPU configuration, supports multi-job CPU loop benchmarking, and provides memory capacity and bandwidth information. For storage, it identifies storage devices and queue depth, then runs 4K and 1M block tests with multiple concurrent jobs. Results include bandwidth, I/O operations per second, average submission latency, and concurrent read and write performance. The benchmark loop duration is configurable, which allows users to adjust how long the assessment runs. Minimal dependencies are also suited to a newly booted Linux server.

Quickbench is a strong fit when Linux compatibility, command-line operation, and an all-around system snapshot matter more than extensive storage-test variety. Its storage scope is narrower: the verified coverage is sequential testing, so it is not the right choice for buyers specifically seeking random I/O workloads. The latency metric also measures I/O submission latency rather than I/O completion latency, an important distinction when interpreting results. Choose Quickbench for lightweight host and storage benchmarking across CPU, memory, and sequential disk performance; consider an alternative when broader storage workload coverage is required.
