Our verdict on Quadstore

Quadstore is an open-source RDF graph database and triplestore for JavaScript runtimes, including browsers, Node.js, Deno, and Bun. Written in TypeScript, it is designed for developers embedding RDF storage and querying into browser-side or server-side JavaScript applications. The library implements RDF/JS Sink, Source, and Store interfaces, while SPARQL querying is provided through the separate quadstore-comunica engine. Its positioning is specialized: JavaScript applications that need RDF storage inside the application rather than a hosted commercial database.

Storage and data handling are the strongest reasons to consider Quadstore. It uses configurable LevelDB-compatible backends and supports persistent on-disk and browser-side storage options. Developers can work with named graphs, streaming quad insertion, deletion, and retrieval, range matching, configurable quad indexes, and prefix mappings. Blank-node scoping across imports and writes is also part of the feature set. These capabilities give the library a practical fit for applications that need control over storage behavior and incremental RDF operations across web and API environments.

The trade-off is a narrower scope than a broad RDF platform. Deployment is self-hosted, and the product is a developer library rather than a hosted service with managed operations. RDF-star support is false, while Turtle is the listed RDF format; the category positioning also identifies limited verified federation, reasoning, and platform breadth. Choose Quadstore when an application already runs in a JavaScript runtime and needs embedded RDF storage, browser persistence, or streaming access. Consider a broader alternative when federation, reasoning, additional verified RDF formats, or a wider deployment model are central requirements.
