Our verdict on GraphDB
GraphDB is an RDF and SPARQL semantic graph database for developers, data scientists, knowledge engineers, administrators, and enterprises. It stores and queries RDF data, supports SPARQL 1.1 query, update, and protocol operations, and adds configurable forward-chaining semantic reasoning, RDF-star, federated queries, and web-based administration through GraphDB Workbench. Teams can deploy it as self-hosted software or through cloud deployments on AWS and Microsoft Azure, with support for web, Windows, macOS, Linux, and API access.
The pricing structure has two clear editions. GraphDB Free costs 0 and includes RDF and SPARQL graph database capabilities, the Lucene connector, and a single query in parallel. GraphDB Enterprise adds unlimited parallel queries, high-availability clustering, multi-region deployments, and connectors for Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr, and Kafka. Enterprise pricing is handled through sales, so organizations evaluating larger deployments should plan for a direct commercial conversation rather than a published self-serve price. The Free edition suits evaluation and smaller workloads, while Enterprise is aimed at teams with concurrency, availability, or geographic deployment requirements.
GraphDB’s main strength is the breadth of its RDF platform and ecosystem. Alongside RDF storage and querying, it offers REST and RDF4J APIs, connectors for Lucene, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr, Kafka, and MongoDB, plus integrations with AWS and Microsoft Azure. It also includes connectors for LLM-related workflows and supports formats including Turtle, TriG, N3, N-Triples, N-Quads, JSON-LD, RDF/XML, and others. Choose GraphDB when semantic reasoning, standards-based querying, federation, and enterprise deployment options need to sit in one product. Teams seeking open-source software or a fully transparent Enterprise price should consider alternatives.
