Our verdict on Fluree DB
Fluree DB is an open-source semantic graph database for developers and organizations building governed knowledge graphs and AI data foundations. It stores RDF data in an immutable, temporal ledger and supports JSON-LD, SPARQL 1.1, RDFS, OWL, and Datalog reasoning. The product can run locally or self-hosted, and it is available as a single binary, HTTP server, or embeddable Rust library. Its core audience is teams that need RDF with data history, policy controls, and search capabilities in the same system.
The free FlureeDB Open Source plan includes an open-source knowledge graph database, native JSON-LD and SPARQL, and local or self-hosted operation. The Enterprise plan adds licensed deployments, single-tenant AWS and private deployment, SSO, SLAs, and enterprise support; pricing is custom. The standout feature set centers on governed, change-aware data: immutable records support time-travel queries, Git-like branching and merging support alternate data states, and fine-grained policies are enforced at query time. Integrated BM25 full-text and HNSW vector search also reduce the need to separate graph, text, and vector workloads.
Fluree DB has broad ecosystem fit through federated queries across remote SPARQL endpoints and connections to Apache Iceberg, Parquet, R2RML relational sources, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Salesforce, HubSpot, ServiceNow, Workday, SAP, and S3. Its RDF format support includes JSON-LD, Turtle, N-Triples, N-Quads, and TriG, while RDF-star, reasoning, and SPARQL 1.1 support cover modern semantic data requirements. Choose it for open-source RDF projects that value lineage, branching, policies, and integrated search. A simpler RDF workload may not need its wider feature set or enterprise deployment options.
