Our verdict on PageKite

PageKite is an open-source reverse proxy and tunneling service for making servers on local computers publicly reachable. It is aimed at web developers, hobbyists, embedded-device developers, and teams that need temporary or managed access to local services. Traffic can pass through managed relay servers or user-operated front ends, helping bypass NAT and inbound firewall restrictions. The service supports HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, and other TCP-based services, with command-line configuration through pagekite.py.

Pricing spans several monthly options. The Pay What You Want plan is a pre-paid service with a user-selected payment amount, while free service may be available in exchange for usage information. The Freelancer plan costs $5.99 per month and includes a group subscription, 3 accounts, and 15 GB of monthly traffic. Team costs $24.99 per month for 15 accounts, 83 GB of monthly traffic, and priority support. Business costs $49.99 per month for 45 accounts, 210 GB of monthly traffic, and priority support. Embedded costs $199.95 per month and adds 500 accounts, 750 GB of monthly traffic, custom domains, white-label service, and custom licenses. The pricing page states that new subscriptions are temporarily unavailable.

PageKite’s strongest fit is its breadth across protocols and platforms. Automatic TLS is available for supported PageKite domains, while custom domains can use CNAME records; dynamic DNS names and subdomains, password or IP-restriction access controls, and a basic built-in firewall add practical control around exposed services. The open-source client and front-end software also support a user-operated relay model. Choose PageKite when local-server access, protocol flexibility, and managed tunneling matter more than a conventional hosted application gateway. Teams that need the paid tiers immediately, or that want a narrow reverse-proxy service without tunneling-oriented workflows, should consider alternatives.
