Our verdict on OfferUp
OfferUp is a marketplace for people buying and selling new and secondhand goods locally. Android shoppers can browse nearby listings by category, image, price, and location, then message sellers, ask questions, or make offers. The service is geared toward local buyers comfortable arranging person-to-person exchanges rather than shoppers looking for a conventional online checkout and delivery flow. Core use is free, and the app is also available on iOS; the website lets people browse listings.
The product’s center of gravity is discovery and coordination. Buyers can save items to lists and custom wishlists, and set alerts for new listings matching searches or similar to items they viewed. These are listing alerts, not price-drop notifications. User ratings, profiles, and reputation features offer context when considering a transaction, while messaging supports suggested community meetup locations. That combination is useful for comparing local options and coordinating a pickup, but the exchange itself remains between the users.
OfferUp Premium is an optional subscription with a three-day trial. Its listed additions are early access to newly posted items, an ad-free experience, a premium profile badge, and priority inbox ranking; the core buyer and seller features remain free. Choose OfferUp if local inventory and direct coordination are the main requirements. It is a weaker fit for shoppers who want in-app payment, order tracking, store pickup, or delivery: OfferUp supports local pickup only and does not process payments through the app. The service is currently US-only.
