Our verdict on ObjectiveFS
ObjectiveFS is a distributed, POSIX-compliant FUSE filesystem for Linux and macOS. It uses cloud or on-premise object storage as its backend while presenting shared file access to cloud instances, containers, laptops, office servers, web applications, media-processing workflows, big-data workloads, and hybrid cloud deployments. Concurrent readers and writers can see updates across mounted machines, while local caching, snapshots, encryption, and data-integrity checks support shared workloads that need familiar filesystem behavior.
Pricing is tiered by workload and administration needs. The Personal plan costs $99 per month and includes automatic scaling, memory and disk cache, end-to-end encryption, automatic snapshots, and support for object stores such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, IBM COS, Oracle Cloud, Scaleway, Wasabi, and DigitalOcean. Team costs $499 per month and adds multithreading, kernel cache, access control lists, checkpoint snapshots, filesystem pools, and NFS/SMB export. Corporate costs $999 per month and adds enhanced multithreading, large filesystem performance, proxy support, user/group ID mapping, and phone support. An Enterprise plan adds unlimited instances, AVX-512 support, S3 Transfer Acceleration, AWS KMS encryption, AWS Assume Role, and SLA options. A 14-day trial does not require a credit card, while object-store charges are billed separately.
The main fit is for teams that need POSIX semantics over object storage rather than a simple file-sync service. Its support for FUSE, NFS, SMB, filesystem pools, IAM roles, Assume Role, live rekeying, and workload-specific tuning gives administrators several ways to align access and performance with their environment. However, the product is limited to Linux and macOS, and higher-end capabilities require higher tiers. Teams needing Windows coverage, a free plan, or a simpler storage gateway may prefer another option; teams building shared cloud filesystems around supported object stores should consider ObjectiveFS.
