Our verdict on Notesnook
Notesnook is an open-source note-taking app for individuals who want encrypted notes across desktop, mobile, and web devices. It combines a rich-text editor with tables, checklists, code blocks, math, and attachments, plus notebooks, tags, colors, favorites, nested organization, reminders, note links, backlinks, and offline editing. Notes are encrypted on the device before synchronization, and encrypted publishing is available through shareable Monograph links. The six-platform coverage makes it suitable for people who move between web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
Pricing is structured around a capable Free plan and three paid tiers. Free includes unlimited notes, unlimited devices, 50MB per month of attachment storage, a 10MB maximum file size, and end-to-end encryption. Essential costs $1.99 per month and adds 1GB per month of attachment storage, 100MB maximum files, 500 notebooks, and full offline mode. Pro costs $6.99 per month, with 10GB per month of attachment storage, 1GB maximum files, unlimited notebooks, and unlimited colors and tags. Believer costs $8.99 per month and raises attachment storage to 25GB per month with a 5GB maximum file size. A 14-day free trial is also offered.
The app’s ecosystem supports imports from Evernote, Google Keep, Simplenote, Joplin, Obsidian, ColorNote, UpNote, Zoho Notebook, Skiff Pages, and Fusebase, alongside Zapier, IFTTT, and Gmail integrations. Its Web Clipper, Inbox API, offline synchronization, and recurring reminders extend it beyond basic text capture. Notesnook is a strong fit for privacy-conscious individuals who value portability, encryption, and organization without a high entry price. Choose another app if real-time collaboration or AI features are central requirements.
