  • Where it wins

    • Kernel-enforced filesystem isolation across major desktop environments
    • Network filtering, credential injection, approvals, and rollback in one runtime
    • Bindings and integrations for popular agent and coding tools
  • Where it doesn't

    • Pre-1.0 APIs are still stabilizing
    • Self-hosted deployment places runtime management on your team
    • Focused on secure execution rather than general-purpose agent orchestration

Our verdict on nono

nono is an open-source runtime for isolating AI agents, terminal tools, and application processes. It is aimed at developers and teams that need least-privilege execution for delegated tools, whether running locally, in CI, or in production environments. The runtime provides a command-line interface and bindings for Python, TypeScript, and Go, with support for Windows, macOS, Linux, and an API.

Its strongest area is layered execution control. Kernel-enforced filesystem isolation is paired with composable JSON security profiles, domain and API endpoint network filtering, command policies, and credential injection through proxies or environment variables. Teams can take atomic filesystem snapshots and roll back changes, while cryptographic Merkle-tree audit trails support review of execution history. Runtime approvals and session-scoped permission expansion add a controlled path for tasks that need more access than their initial policy allows.

nono also fits an agent-focused development workflow through integrations with Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, Antigravity, Goose, OpenClaw, GitHub Copilot, Qwen Code, Pi, and Hermes. Its self-hosted model gives teams control over deployment, but also makes environment management part of adoption. The project is pre-1.0, with APIs still stabilizing, so teams that need a settled interface may prefer an alternative. Choose nono when isolation, network controls, auditability, and delegated-tool execution are central requirements; look elsewhere if you need a general-purpose orchestration platform or a managed service.
