Our verdict on NodeChef Java Cloud
NodeChef Java Cloud is a managed container platform for Java and other JVM-based applications. It is aimed at small and midsize businesses and enterprise workloads that want hosted application and database infrastructure without managing every runtime component themselves. The platform supports web, Linux, and API use cases, with managed application and database containers, automatic HTTPS through Let's Encrypt certificates, and unmetered bandwidth on the Bare Metal App and Database Containers plan.
Pricing is relatively direct across the two listed plans. Bare Metal App and Database Containers starts at $9 per month and includes 128 MB of app memory, one app instance, a choice of MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Redis, and unmetered bandwidth. The displayed $9 configuration is billed hourly for containers. Private Server Runtime costs $10 per GB of RAM per month and lets teams deploy to private servers from any cloud provider or Ubuntu server, with the runtime fee billed by the minute. A 14-day trial is available, but there is no free plan.
Deployment flexibility is a central strength. Teams can connect GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket, deploy through the CLI, upload ZIP, TAR, JAR, or WAR artifacts through the dashboard, or build with Java and JVM buildpacks and Dockerfiles. Automatic scaling, container health checks, zero-downtime rolling updates, application metrics, logs, and uptime monitoring cover the operational layer. Integrated databases add backups and replication, while the supported database choices extend beyond Java-specific workloads. NodeChef Java Cloud fits teams seeking managed containers with several deployment routes and built-in services; teams needing a free tier or more app memory in the entry configuration should look elsewhere.
