Our verdict on Azure App Service

Azure App Service is a fully managed platform-as-a-service for building, deploying, and scaling web applications, APIs, and mobile backends. It supports .NET, Java, Node.js, Python, PHP, and containerized workloads on Windows or Linux. Developers and organizations can use it to host applications without managing the underlying infrastructure, while enterprise teams can add authentication, monitoring, networking, and scaling capabilities as their requirements grow.

The plan structure covers trials through dedicated compute. F1 Free includes 1 GB of storage, 60 CPU minutes per day, and shared compute for trials, experimentation, and learning. D1 Shared includes 1 GB of storage and 240 CPU minutes per day, also on shared compute, with data transfer charges applying. B1 Basic adds 1.75 GB of RAM, 10 GB of storage, dedicated compute, and support for backups. Higher supported tiers add access to capabilities such as deployment slots and backup and restore, while pricing varies by region, operating system, currency, agreement, and date.

Its strongest fit is an Azure-centered development environment: continuous deployment connects with GitHub, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Docker Hub, and Azure Container Registry, while Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure SQL Database, and Azure OpenAI extend the platform ecosystem. Custom domains, TLS/SSL, vertical and horizontal autoscaling, virtual network integration, isolated App Service Environments, and deployment slots support production application operations. Choose Azure App Service when managed hosting, Microsoft integrations, and support for both Windows and Linux matter. Teams seeking dedicated compute from the start should look beyond the Free and Shared tiers.
