Our verdict on AWS Elastic Beanstalk
AWS Elastic Beanstalk is a managed application deployment service for teams running web applications and services in AWS Cloud. Developers upload application code, select a supported platform, and Elastic Beanstalk provisions resources including Amazon EC2 instances, load balancing, auto scaling, and health monitoring. It supports Go, Java, .NET, Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby, and Docker, with management through the AWS console, APIs, AWS CLI, or EB CLI. Its fit is clearest for teams that want AWS-managed application environments without manually coordinating each deployment resource.
The pricing model separates the service from the infrastructure it manages. Elastic Beanstalk itself has no additional service charge, while AWS bills the underlying resources used by the application. The product does not provide a free plan. Its AWS ecosystem fit is a central consideration: integrations include Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon RDS, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon SQS, and AWS IAM. This gives teams a connected path across compute, storage, databases, queues, monitoring, and access management.
Operationally, Elastic Beanstalk covers application code upload and deployment, managed platform provisioning, automatic capacity scaling, load balancing, health monitoring, platform updates, and security patches. Separate development, testing, and production environments support staged delivery, while web server and worker environment tiers address different application roles. Docker support adds another deployment option. Choose it when AWS alignment and managed infrastructure operations matter; consider another hosting approach if you need a free plan or prefer pricing that is not tied to separately billed cloud resources. Support availability also varies with the selected AWS Support plan.
