Our verdict on NixCI

NixCI is a continuous integration service for projects using Nix flakes. It automatically discovers flake outputs, creates build jobs, and runs builds, tests, and deployment jobs in parallel. Teams can connect GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, or Forgejo repositories, then use hosted workers or customer-managed workers. Hosted workers provide 16 vCPUs and 64 GB of RAM. NixCI is aimed at Nix teams that want managed CI without giving up reproducibility, caching, or control over where jobs run.

The published plans cover open source, managed, and infrastructure-controlled deployments. The FOSS plan is for open source projects and includes bring-your-own workers and automatic caching, with hosted workers available as usage-based billing. Hosted starts at $37 USD per developer per month, billed monthly, and adds unlimited private repositories, managed infrastructure, hosted or customer-managed workers, full cache access, and priority support. Self-Hosted uses custom pricing and runs on customer infrastructure, with customer-managed workers and caches, priority support, and SLAs available. A 14-day trial is available on the demo system.

NixCI’s strongest distinction is its Nix-specific workflow: automatic flake discovery, binary caching, cross-run worker caching, and exact reproduction commands for local debugging. It also supports impure tests and deployments with secrets, which suits projects that need both reproducible builds and controlled deployment steps. Choose NixCI when Nix flakes are central to the development workflow and hosted or self-managed worker options matter. Teams seeking a general-purpose CI service for non-Nix projects should consider a broader platform instead.
