Our verdict on Nitric

Nitric is an open-source framework for defining application infrastructure in code and building cloud backends. It is suited to teams that want to describe backend resources alongside application code and keep deployment options open across cloud providers. SDKs support JavaScript/TypeScript, Python and Go. Resource declarations cover APIs, databases, queues or messaging, storage, secrets and scheduled tasks, giving teams a common way to express the pieces of a backend.

Local development is a notable part of the workflow: Nitric's CLI can run an application with emulated resources and a dashboard for testing. That can help teams exercise backend behavior before deploying to provider services. For deployment, provider plugins support AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, while the documented targets also include Kubernetes and a single server. Applications are built into containers. The documentation also describes infrastructure-tool support for Pulumi and Terraform, which may suit teams already working with those tools.

Nitric is free and open source, but that does not mean a deployed application has no operating cost; cloud infrastructure and provider services may be billed separately. The listed support channels are community and documentation, so organizations needing a dedicated support channel should weigh that fit. Choose Nitric if portability, local emulation and infrastructure declarations across multiple targets matter. It may be less suitable for teams committed to a single provider or seeking a framework with a broader set of fully supported SDK languages; other language SDKs are described as experimental or earlier-stage.
