Our verdict on Modulo Kinetic

Modulo Kinetic is an integrated media-server platform for projection mapping, immersive venues, live shows, corporate events and theme parks. It is designed for show designers, content creators, operators, integrators and technicians working on complex multi-projector or interactive visual productions. The software combines timeline-based compositing, real-time animation, 2D and 3D projector warping, calibration, simulation, live mixing, show control, interactivity and optional tracking across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. Its €90-per-month Designer 2D+3D plan includes 2D mapping, timeline and nodal programming, 3D project study and simulation, generative and interactive content, and offline programming.

The strongest fit is for productions that need both visual control and external show integration. Modulo Kinetic supports MIDI, OSC, GPIO, DMX, Art-Net, NDI, HDMI, SDI, TCP/IP and PosiStage PSN. Its live mixer includes program, preview, confidence screens, presets and transitions, while custom user panels can extend control to desktop and mobile devices. Multi-projector soft-edge blending, object import and 3D scene visualization support more involved installations. Optional KineMotion tracking adds moving-object projection, and optional capture cards support live video input.

The main boundary is the license and hardware model. The Designer 2D+3D license provides one projection output, while full show playback and show control require Modulo Kinetic hardware. That makes the platform more suitable for professional installations with dedicated playback infrastructure than for small, single-projector experiments. Choose Modulo Kinetic when calibration, blending, live mixing, protocol support and mobile control matter together. Choose an alternative if you need a simpler tool, a broader output configuration in the base license, or a software-only workflow for complete show playback.
