Our verdict on Mercari
Mercari is a peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling new and used goods, including clothing, electronics, collectibles, and homewares. Its Android app is aimed at shoppers who want to browse listings, compare options, and follow items they may buy, as well as sellers listing goods for resale. Search supports keywords and brand filters, while messaging and offers give buyers a way to engage with sellers before checkout. The app is available in the United States, and it is also available on the web.
For shoppers tracking changing listings, saved searches provide updates about similar items, while liking or saving an item can trigger notifications about price drops and seller offers. This makes Mercari a fit for buyers who are willing to monitor the marketplace rather than make a one-time search. Cart and in-app checkout keep purchases within the platform. After an order ships, Order Status can show shipment updates and estimated delivery when tracking information is available. Shipping integrations include USPS, UPS, and FedEx.
Mercari is free to install, but that does not make purchases cost-free: buyers may pay the item price, shipping, and applicable transaction fees. There is no recurring shopper membership price described in its published pricing information. The practical choice is between using its marketplace and alert features to follow secondhand listings, or choosing another option if availability outside the United States is important. For U.S. resale shoppers who value price-drop notifications, seller communication, checkout, and shipment tracking in one app, Mercari brings those steps together; it is less suitable for shoppers who need a service available in other countries or expect tracking on orders without tracking information.
