Our verdict on Memex

Memex is a private learning library for people who study from books, audio, video, PDFs, and documents. It brings these sources into one library for reading, listening, and watching, then adds source-linked notes, annotations, transcripts, study tools, and canvases. The strongest fit is for students, researchers, and independent learners who want notes tied to the exact passage, page, or media moment rather than kept in a separate general-purpose notebook.

Its standout feature is the connection between source material and notes. Memex can link annotations to exact media timestamps and provides read-along transcripts through on-device AI transcription. Study tools and native canvases extend the workflow beyond basic note capture, while organization and export tools help structure the resulting material. Offline library access is available, and files can remain on the device or in iCloud Drive. The published integration is iCloud Drive, making the product a natural fit for users already working within Apple's ecosystem.

The free offering includes local library access and offline access. Memex Study Monthly and Memex Study Yearly add source-linked notes, on-device AI transcription, and study and native canvases; both paid plans include the same listed highlights. A seven-day free trial is available for the paid experience. Memex is available for iPhone, iPad, and compatible Mac computers, so its focused platform coverage is an important consideration. Choose it for media-rich study and connected annotations; choose a broader note suite instead if you need wider platform support or a more general workspace.
