Our verdict on MainTask

MainTask is an open-source Android app for keeping track of recurring maintenance and personal routines, such as watering plants, changing filters, or checking a car. It suits people who want reminders on one Android device without an account, and also handles one-time tasks, including tasks without a target date. The app is free and says it has no ads or trackers, with data staying on the device. It requires Android 8.0 or newer.

Its reminder tools cover fixed-day intervals as well as weekly and monthly schedules. Notifications can be set for one or three days before a task is due, and offer Done and snooze actions. A completion history for each task makes past activity available alongside upcoming work. For quick access, MainTask includes a scrollable home-screen widget and a Quick Settings tile; tasks can also carry on-device photo attachments. This is a focused personal task list rather than a broader planning system, so it is a fit for routine reminders but less suited to people seeking a wider connected workflow.

Backup export and import include task history, useful for keeping a record when moving or restoring data. The local-data approach and open-source model will appeal to users who prefer a lightweight Android tool and do not need an account-based service. Its scope is the main trade-off: MainTask is Android-only, and no integrations are listed.
