LinShare review
A control-focused file exchange platform for teams handling sensitive large files.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
LinShare is an open-source file-sharing platform for organizations, governments, financial institutions, and enterprises. It is designed for secure exchange of large files through password-protected links, expiration dates, guest access, upload requests, shared spaces, and role-based permissions. Administrator, contributor, and reader roles support controlled collaboration, while internal, guest, and external upload requests cover collection workflows. Access is available through web, iOS, Android, Linux, browser extensions, APIs, and email plugins for Outlook and Thunderbird.
Its strongest fit is governance. Administrative quotas and single-upload size controls help organizations manage transfer policies, while activity logs and complete audit trails provide visibility into file activity. LDAP, SSO, OpenID, Azure, Active Directory, Keycloak, and centralized two-factor authentication support identity and access management. Delegation APIs add granular permissions for organizations that need to connect file exchange with internal processes or automation tools such as n8n. AI features and integrations with Claude, ChatGPT, and Ollama are also listed, although the core product emphasis remains controlled file sharing.
LinShare is free and open source, with self-hosted deployment available on organizational infrastructure and cloud deployment also supported. LINAGORA offers professional support, implementation, training, and managed services separately. The product suits teams that prioritize ownership, administrative control, auditability, and secure large-file exchange. It is less suitable for organizations seeking a primarily synchronization-focused workspace or a file platform where infrastructure responsibility is outside the team’s operating model. Buyers should also assess how much configuration and ongoing administration their deployment requires before choosing it.
