Our verdict on Lightdash

Lightdash is a business intelligence platform for data teams and business users working with dbt projects and warehouse data. It lets teams define governed metrics, dimensions, charts, and dashboards through dbt or Lightdash YAML, then explore results in a web interface. Its open-source deployment model, APIs, self-hosting option, and support for embedded analytics make it suited to organizations that want BI close to their data and development workflows. The product is especially relevant for dbt teams comfortable managing an open-source BI stack.

The plans separate deployment choice from additional operating features. Open Source provides self-hosted deployment, core BI features, open-source software, and unlimited users. Cloud Pro is hosted by Lightdash and costs $3,000 per month on monthly billing. It also includes unlimited users, scheduled reports and alerting, AI agents and MCP, with embedding available as an add-on. Enterprise supports cloud or on-premises deployment and adds SSO, SAML, SCIM 2.0, custom roles, a SOC 2-compliant platform, and priority support. Enterprise pricing is contact-sales.

Lightdash’s strongest fit is a governed analytics workflow built around dbt, Git, and a broad warehouse ecosystem. Integrations include BigQuery, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Postgres, Trino, ClickHouse, Amazon Athena, DuckDB, GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. Metrics catalogs, an open semantic layer, charts and dashboards as code, scheduled delivery, natural-language AI agents, APIs, webhooks, and iframe or React SDK embedding extend its scope beyond basic dashboarding. Choose Lightdash when open-source control and dbt alignment matter; consider alternatives if a $3,000 monthly hosted plan or add-on embedding does not fit.
