Our verdict on LightAct
LightAct is media server software for live events and immersive fixed installations. It is designed for professional show operators, projection designers, and production teams working on large-scale video, lighting, and interactive installations. The Windows-only software combines projection studies with 2D and 3D projection mapping, projector calibration, automatic blending, timeline playback, live content, and multi-server workflows. Its focus suits teams that need both analysis before a show and control during it.
Its strongest point is the breadth of the projection workflow. Projection study modes cover projected content, shadow analysis, illuminance, and pixel size. Mapping supports perspective warp, mesh warp, softedge blending, 3D models, and projector objects. AutoBlend can calculate projector blend masks, while 3DCal and Iris support projector calibration through computer vision. For live work, LightAct includes external timecode synchronization, inputs from Notch, TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine, NDI, and video sources, plus DMX, OSC, MIDI, Art-Net, and sACN control. LightNet adds multi-server clustering for larger systems.
The licensing structure ranges from the Creator plan, which unlocks all features for unlimited use with watermarked outputs, to paid tiers built around output capacity and production needs. Easy Perpetual costs €1,770 one-time and supports up to two 4K outputs on a standalone server. Pro tiers add asset versioning and LightNet clustering for up to eight 4K outputs, while Live tiers add enhanced live inputs, automatic backup, and object and camera tracking. Ultimate unlocks all features for up to eight 4K outputs and is available exclusively on LightAct servers. Choose LightAct if Windows and discrete Nvidia hardware fit the production environment; teams needing another operating system should look elsewhere.
