Google Cloud Identity is a cloud-based identity and access management platform for organizations that need centralized control over users, groups, applications, and endpoints. It is particularly well suited to Google-centric environments, while also supporting federation with Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID. Its capabilities cover single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, directory synchronization, lifecycle management, endpoint management, secure LDAP, and context-aware access policies.
Published plans show a free Cloud Identity edition with core identity management, basic endpoint management, 2-Step Verification, SAML single sign-on, and 50 user licenses by default. Cloud Identity Premium adds enterprise security features, automated user provisioning, Context-Aware Access, and advanced endpoint management. The annual or fixed-term Premium plan is priced at $6 per user per month with annual billing and includes 15 GB of pooled storage per end user. The flexible Premium plan is priced at $7.20 per user per month with monthly billing and no annual commitment. Teams choosing between the editions should weigh the need for advanced security and device controls against the value of the free tier.
The platform fits organizations already using Google Workspace or Google Cloud, with integrations for Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, LDAP, SAML applications, and Google Workspace. Its MFA options include security keys, Google Prompt, authenticator codes, backup codes, SMS, voice calls, and passkeys. Context-Aware Access can apply policies based on identity, location, device security, and IP address, while Google Cloud Directory Sync and Directory Sync support directory connections. Organizations needing broad identity, access, and endpoint coverage should consider Cloud Identity. Smaller teams needing only basic controls may prefer the Free edition, while teams requiring advanced features must choose Premium.
