Our verdict on Gloam

Gloam is a free, open-source Windows application for correcting display gamma, managing night mode, and calibrating SDR and HDR displays. Its per-monitor controls, per-game profiles, and display targeting make it relevant to gamers who want different display behavior for different games. It also addresses washed-out SDR content in HDR mode. The application runs locally, so it is intended for Windows users seeking display correction and calibration without a cloud service.

Calibration is a notable strength: with a supported colorimeter, Gloam can calibrate SDR and HDR displays, install native Windows MHC2 profiles, and measure results through the installed correction. Its dashboard shows per-monitor status and adjustments, while calibration reports include raw data and charts. It can also restore corrections after display or driver changes. ArgyllCMS and the DisplayCAL community correction database are part of its ecosystem. The published feature set emphasizes MHC2 profiles; it does not establish ICC profile export.

For everyday adjustment, users can choose per-monitor gamma 2.2, gamma 2.4, or Windows Default, and schedule night mode, control it manually, or make it application-aware. Game profiles can set display intents and target multiple displays for game windows. That focus may suit solo users and small setups centered on Windows gaming, but the application is limited to Windows 10 and Windows 11, and calibration requires a supported colorimeter. Choose Gloam for local correction and gaming-oriented SDR/HDR workflows; consider another option if you need a tool for other platforms or a broader display-management remit.
