Our verdict on GameAP
GameAP is a free, open-source control panel for self-hosted game servers and related services. It is designed for operators managing deployments on Windows or Linux, from low-resource virtual servers to horizontally scaled dedicated infrastructure. The panel handles installation, starting, stopping, restarting, updating, and reinstalling servers, while also providing remote console access, RCON player management, file operations, CPU and RAM limits, scheduled tasks, and per-server permissions. A web interface, API, and Docker distribution support different deployment and management workflows.
Automation is the clearest reason to choose GameAP. Recurring tasks can run restarts, updates, commands, and backups, while the REST API supports integrations and server provisioning. Its WebAssembly plugin architecture and plugin catalog extend the panel, and compatibility with Pterodactyl Eggs and Pelican Eggs adds ecosystem fit. Users, roles, and per-server access controls also make it suitable for teams that need to separate administrative responsibilities. The published supported-game list includes Minecraft, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Garry’s Mod, Quake, Rust, FiveM, Hytale, Terraria, and San Andreas: MP.
GameAP fits operators who want open-source control and are comfortable managing a self-hosted panel and its underlying infrastructure. Its file manager supports editing, uploads, downloads, and archive handling, which keeps common server administration tasks in one interface. Scheduled backups are documented, but the panel itself does not automatically perform database backups, so database protection requires separate handling. Choose GameAP when API access, provisioning, plugins, and configurable permissions matter most; consider another panel when your required game is outside the documented coverage or when you want database backup automation handled directly by the panel.
