Our verdict on Dragonfly
Dragonfly is a multi-threaded, shared-nothing in-memory datastore for real-time workloads. It supports Redis and Memcached APIs, making it suitable for teams considering a compatible datastore for caches, feature stores, queues, and other high-throughput applications. Its data capabilities include strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets, streams, JSON, vectors, geospatial data, and probabilistic structures. Replication, failover, snapshot-based persistence, backup, and SSD data tiering extend its use beyond a strictly volatile cache.
The managed Flex plan costs $36 per month and includes AWS, GCP, or Azure deployment, one-click provisioning, horizontal and vertical scaling, a monitoring dashboard, and Dragonfly team support. Business costs $2,000 per month and adds bring-your-own-cloud deployment, auto-scaling, SSO and MFA, a custom SLA, and dedicated support. Self-Managed supports cloud or on-premises deployment and includes LDAP authentication, role-based access control, enterprise support, and an SLA. There is no free plan, so teams evaluating the service need to account for a paid entry point.
Dragonfly also connects with tools and systems including BullMQ, ClickHouse, django-cacheops, Feast, LibreDB Studio, Magento, Redlock, Relay, and Sidekiq. Its API compatibility and deployment choices fit teams that want Redis- or Memcached-oriented application integration while adding vector and faceted search, JSON, and geospatial capabilities. Choose Dragonfly when managed operations, compatibility, persistence, failover, or richer search models matter. Teams requiring SQL support, a free starting tier, or a narrowly cache-focused product may prefer an alternative.
