Our verdict on DevGuard

DevGuard is an open-source developer security platform for developers, DevOps engineers, security teams, small companies, and enterprise organizations. It brings dependency analysis, source-code scanning, secret scanning, IaC checks, container image scanning, vulnerability management, and supply-chain verification into one product. Deployment options include self-hosted software and managed SaaS, with web, Windows, macOS, and Linux support.

The Open Source plan includes all features, community support, and self-hosted deployment. It is free for public projects with an OSI-approved license. Business SaaS costs €449.10 per month with annual billing and includes 10 users, a fully managed instance hosted in Germany, an initial one-hour setup workshop, and 8×5 email support hours. Enterprise adds deployment in your data center or cloud, unlimited users, projects, and assets, plus custom maintenance, support, training, SLA, phone, and chat support.

DevGuard’s strongest fit is for teams that need broad software supply-chain controls rather than a single scanner. Its feature set covers SBOM generation and imports, VEX assessment and sharing, dependency firewall support for npm, Go, PyPI, and OCI container images, signed provenance, artifact attestations, in-toto recording and verification, and automated CI quality gates. GitHub, GitLab, CI pipelines, and issue trackers are supported. Teams wanting self-hosting or an open-source option should find the coverage compelling; organizations seeking a narrowly focused tool or a lower-cost managed plan should consider alternatives.
