Our verdict on D20PRO
D20PRO is a desktop virtual tabletop for running tabletop roleplaying games online or in person. It is designed for groups that want structured combat management alongside maps, campaign tools, and rules references. Support includes D&D 5E, D&D 3.5 and 4E, Pathfinder, Starfinder, and customizable d20-based systems. Offline play makes it suitable for in-person sessions as well as online games, and it runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Combat is the product’s clearest focus. D20PRO automates attacks, damage, and ongoing effects, while initiative tracking and turn order help manage encounters. Fog of war, dynamic lighting, map creation, and drawing tools support tactical play. Creature, map, and item libraries provide reusable campaign material, while handouts can share images and PDFs. Rules and SRD reference libraries add in-app material for supported play, and JavaScript scripting and extensions provide a path for customization.
The licensing model is built around one-time purchases rather than subscriptions. A Trial License provides full-license features during the trial period. A Guest License lets a player join a game and is included with D20PRO; a Player License costs $10 one time and does not require an available guest seat. A $50 GM License allows hosting as a Judge or joining as a player and includes two guest seats, while an additional guest seat costs $10 one time.
