Our verdict on D-Bench
D-Bench is a free Windows desktop utility for measuring storage read and write performance. It is intended for benchmarking SSDs, HDDs, NVMe drives, and USB storage through sequential, random, and mixed I/O workloads. Users can select HDD, SSD, or flash-drive presets, then adjust block size, queue depth, thread count, and test duration. The supported Windows range runs from Windows Vista through Windows 11, making it suitable for users who want straightforward storage performance reports without a command prompt.
Its strongest capability is configurable workload coverage. Sequential read and write tests measure sustained performance, while random and mixed read/write workloads provide different views of storage behavior. Results include separate read and write measurements, throughput in MB/s, IOPS, and average latency. This combination gives the reports more detail than a single throughput figure, while the adjustable parameters allow users to compare tests under different workload conditions. The HDD, SSD, and flash-drive presets provide a starting point for common storage types.
Reporting is another practical focus. D-Bench can export results as TXT or HTML files, which supports simple record-keeping and sharing. The application is designed as a graphical interface, so it does not provide a command-line workflow for scripted or automated benchmark runs. It also targets Windows rather than multiple operating systems. Choose D-Bench if you need a free graphical Windows tool with sequential, random, and mixed tests plus IOPS, latency, and exportable reports. Choose another option if command-line access or a non-Windows platform is essential.
