Our verdict on Cumulocity IoT

Cumulocity IoT is an industrial IoT and AIoT platform for connecting, managing, and analyzing equipment data. It is designed for industrial equipment makers and enterprises in sectors including manufacturing, utilities, healthcare, telecommunications, logistics, and energy. Its scope covers device connectivity, fleet lifecycle management, digital twins, asset hierarchies, streaming analytics, dashboards, data querying, application development, and machine-learning integrations. Cloud, edge, and on-premises deployment options make it suitable for organizations with varied infrastructure requirements.

Pricing is structured across Starter, Business, and Enterprise plans. Starter costs €215 per month when billed annually and includes unlimited users, up to 2.5M messages per month, one tenant, 30-day data retention, up to three analytics models, and community support. Business adds multiple tenants, up to 250M platform messages per month, 24/7 crisis phone support, Single Sign-On, configurable retention, and web app extensions and microservices. Enterprise adds dedicated infrastructure, unlimited messages, 24/7 all-incident support, multiple tenants on any region, priority support, and a customizable platform. Business and Enterprise pricing is custom, so larger deployments require a direct commercial evaluation.

Its main strength is breadth: Cumulocity IoT connects through MQTT, REST API, OPC UA, LwM2M, LoRa, Sigfox, and thin-edge.io, while DataHub supports SQL access through ODBC and JDBC. Real-time event processing, custom dashboards, live visualization, and machine-learning model operationalization support analytics programs that extend beyond simple device monitoring. Choose it when an enterprise needs fleet operations, digital twins, analytics, and deployment flexibility in one platform. Smaller teams seeking a free plan, simpler pricing, or a narrower monitoring tool may find Starter's single-tenant structure and annual billing less suitable.
