Our verdict on CPU-X
CPU-X is a free, open-source system profiling and monitoring application for GNU/Linux and FreeBSD. It gathers information about the CPU, motherboard and other hardware, making it suitable for Linux users who want a focused view of core system components rather than a broad system information suite. The project supports x86 and ARM processors, including 32-bit and 64-bit variants, while its category platform is Linux.
Its main strength is interface flexibility. CPU-X offers a GTK graphical interface, an NCurses text interface and a command-line summary dump, so it can present the same general focus through graphical, terminal-based and command-line workflows. A daemon can provide access to additional hardware information. The project also distributes source code, repository packages, Flatpak builds and portable AppImage binaries, giving Linux users several installation and usage formats.
CPU-X is a good choice for users who specifically need CPU, motherboard and related hardware information with profiling and monitoring in a lightweight, open-source package. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a comprehensive system information suite or broader operating-system coverage. The project no longer supports macOS, and AppImage availability and supported architectures vary by release. Choose CPU-X when focused Linux hardware visibility, multiple interfaces and command-line access matter more than extensive platform breadth.
