Our verdict on Continua CI

Continua CI is a Windows-based continuous integration server for automating software builds, tests, packaging, and deployment workflows. It suits teams that want a web-based build management interface while keeping the CI server and runners self-hosted. Repository monitoring can trigger builds from changes, and projects can be organized into configurations with a GUI workflow editor. The platform also supports pull request checks, build artifacts, downloadable outputs, notifications, issue-tracker linking, and unit-test integration for NUnit and MSTest.

Pricing follows a freemium model. The free Solo edition includes one concurrent build, one local agent, unlimited projects, and unlimited users. The Add a Build plan costs $199 one-time and adds one concurrent build plus unlimited agents, projects, and users. Start-up costs $900 one-time for five concurrent builds, while Team costs $1,750 for 10, Professional costs $2,550 for 15, and Corporate costs $3,300 for 20. Each paid tier includes unlimited agents, projects, and users. This structure makes Continua CI suitable for teams that prefer a one-time license and can match spending to required build concurrency.

Its strongest fit is a Windows-centered toolchain: integrations include Git, Subversion, Team Foundation Server, FinalBuilder, MSBuild, NUnit, and MSTest. YAML or JSON configuration can be exported and imported, while versioned repository caches operate on the server and agents. Distributed agents help separate build execution from the central management interface, and gates and conditions add control over workflow progression. Teams seeking a hosted CI service or a non-Windows server should choose an alternative. Continua CI is better suited to organizations that want classic, self-hosted build management with configurable workflows and Windows-native integrations.
