Our verdict on Common Planner
Common Planner is a web-based lesson planning platform for individual teachers, schools, and districts. It supports daily, weekly, monthly, unit, and backward planning, with standards search and alignment, reusable lessons and templates, AI-assisted lesson creation and revision, file attachments, shared planbooks, and Google Classroom publishing. Teachers can work from a computer or phone browser, while schools can organize teams, templates, planbooks, and shared instructional resources.
The teacher pricing is accessible at both entry levels. Basic for Teachers is free forever and includes the AI-powered lesson assistant, daily through monthly planning, standards search, 50 Google Classroom posts, individual lesson printing or downloading, and file uploads from a computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, or Office 365. Pro for Teachers costs $5.59 per user per month when billed monthly, or $71.88 per user per year with annual billing. It adds unit planning, automatic standards tracking, unlimited Google Classroom posts, printing or downloading by day, week, month, or unit, class website publishing, and collaboration with up to five collaborators. A 30-day free trial is also available.
Common Planner’s main strength is breadth within a single planning workspace. Its standards tools, AI generation, reusable resources, multiple planning views, and real-time co-planning support both individual preparation and shared instructional work. Integrations extend beyond Google Classroom to Google Drive, Dropbox, Office 365, OneDrive, and Canvas LMS. Schools get planbook organization, teacher teams, school-wide templates, membership management, collaboration, staff training, and ongoing support through the Cc for Schools plan. Choose Common Planner if you want a free starting point or a low-cost Pro tier with broad planning and collaboration features. Consider another option if native mobile apps are essential or if you need a teacher-only product without school-oriented capabilities.
