Our verdict on Comma

Comma captures and archives business communications for regulated organizations, including financial services, healthcare, and government. Compliance teams can search conversations by platform and user, review policy flags in queues, assign work, investigate activity through cross-channel timelines, and export examination-ready packages. Retention controls, archive delivery, case management, notifications, escalations, regulatory reporting, APIs, and webhooks extend the platform beyond basic message storage. Its stated company-size fit spans small, mid-market, and enterprise teams.

The published plans show a paid model with a 14-day trial and no free plan. Active user costs $33 per user per month and includes all supported channels, no per-connector fees, a WORM archive and exam export, AI-driven policy matching, and case management. Archival costs $15 per user per month and provides a searchable archive and exam export; it is automatically applied when a seat is offboarded. Enterprise adds multi-entity setup, custom retention periods and data residency, private-cloud and on-premises requirements review, dedicated onboarding and implementation, and SLA-backed support. The $15 starting rate therefore applies to archival-only offboarded users rather than active-user service.

Comma connects with channels and systems such as WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Exchange, Gmail, Google Workspace, Telegram, Instant Bloomberg, and OpenAI. Cloud and self-hosted deployment, web access, API access, and archive delivery to Amazon S3 or Azure Blob support varied operating models. The vendor states that the design addresses electronic-recordkeeping requirements including SEC Rule 17a-4 and FINRA Rule 4511, and lists GDPR compliance. Teams needing policy-review workflows across many channels should consider Comma; organizations seeking a free tier or lower active-user price should look elsewhere.
