Our verdict on CodaMail
CodaMail is a subscription email service for privacy-conscious individuals and small teams that need custom domains, address aliases and standard mail protocols. Its browser-based webmail works across web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, while POP, IMAP and SMTP support lets users connect desktop and mobile clients. Calendars, contacts and notes can sync through DAV protocols, extending the mailbox beyond basic email.
Pricing starts with Email Lite at $20 per year, including 2 GB of storage, unlimited catch-all aliases for one account, two hosted custom domains, five random disposable aliases, two calendars, two tasklists and POP/IMAP/SMTP. Email Only costs $22.50 per 6 months or $45 per 12 months, with 5 GB, five masked catch-all aliases, 30+ account catch-all aliases, 50 random disposable aliases and five hosted private domains. Internet Shield costs $5.10 per month and adds an HTTP/SSH proxy, 10 GB, 10 masked aliases, unlimited hosted domains and optional web hosting. Socks Plus costs $8.55 per month and adds SOCKS proxy access, 15 GB, 15 masked aliases, unlimited hosted domains and optional web hosting. A 30-day trial is available without a required card.
The feature set suits users who value address management and client flexibility: SMTP-level sender and server blocking, mail filters, automatic PGP-encryption actions, and integrations with Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Mailvelope, Obsidian and Joplin. AES-256-GCM protects stored mail, while optional PGP uses keys managed by the user rather than applying automatically to every message. Email and documentation support are available, with 24/7 support listed. Choose CodaMail if aliases, domains and protocol access matter more than generous storage; consider another service if you need a free tier or more than 2 GB on the least expensive plan.
