Our verdict on Cloud FTP

Cloud FTP is a managed SFTP service from Google Cloud for organizations moving files between users, partners, applications, and Cloud Storage. It supports standard SFTP clients such as Cyberduck, FileZilla, and WinSCP, making it suitable for partner data exchange, internal file sharing, and data-processing workflows. Its focus is Google Cloud infrastructure rather than broad multi-protocol file transfer.

Pricing is usage-based. Server uptime costs $0.30 per server hour for managed SFTP server endpoint uptime, while data transferred costs $0.04 per GB for SFTP uploads and downloads. There are no fixed subscription tiers described here, and Cloud Storage storage, request, and related Google Cloud service charges are billed separately. This model fits variable workloads, but teams should account for both endpoint runtime and transfer volume when estimating spend.

Cloud FTP offers a wide set of deployment and control options within Google Cloud. External servers can use IP-range restrictions, while internal servers work through Private Service Connect and VPC networks. Public-key authentication maps users to service accounts and their Cloud Storage permissions.
