Our verdict on Checkpoint64
Checkpoint64 is a desktop game-save manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It watches selected save folders, uploads changed files automatically, keeps labelled backup versions, and supports manual restoration. Its audience includes individual players, groups, streamers, modding teams, and anyone sharing saves across machines. Support spans Steam, GOG, Epic, emulators, and manually selected folders, with presets for more than 140 games and seven emulators.
The plan structure covers both casual and shared-save use. The free tier includes a personal space, one team, automatic backup, full version history, co-op locks, a logbook, and three read-only share-code fans. Lifetime costs €10 one time and adds up to three teams, 1 GiB of storage per space, and no subscription; it is available directly or on Steam. Pro costs €5 per month and includes up to five teams, 5 GiB per space, a guaranteed minimum of 25 seats per team, unlimited read-only share codes, and priority bandwidth. Pro is also offered as a one-time Steam unlock.
Checkpoint64’s strongest distinction is its shared-save workflow rather than simple backup alone. Co-op locks help coordinate access, while the activity logbook records uploads, restores, and lock changes. Discord notifications add visibility for shared-save commits and restores. Automatic Steam library detection reduces folder selection work, and cloud synchronization keeps signed-in machines aligned. Manual restoration gives users control over which version returns, but it is less automatic than rollback systems that choose recovery points for them. Players who want group coordination, history, and cross-platform desktop coverage should consider Checkpoint64; those seeking only a lightweight local backup tool may not need its team and sharing features.
